Agility Robotics, the company behind the bipedal robot known as Digit, has announced significant upgrades to its latest version. The new iteration features a sensor-equipped cylindrical head and two animated LED eyes, which are designed to improve human-robot interaction. This latest version of Digit not only enhances its aesthetics but also improves its ability to work alongside humans in industries such as logistics, industrial inspection, and telepresence.
Digit, first introduced in 2020, was developed as a versatile machine that could work in close proximity to humans. Its bipedal design allows it to occupy the same amount of space as a person and navigate various terrains on two legs. With its recent upgrades, Digit is now better equipped to handle warehouse tasks and foster better communication with human colleagues.
One of the key upgrades to Digit is the redesigned end effectors, or hands, which have been optimized to handle the plastic totes commonly used in warehouse environments. This design change will enable Digit to more efficiently perform tasks such as picking up, moving, and sorting items within logistics and industrial inspection settings.

Despite its ability to walk, step up on curbs, crouch, and execute other basic movements, Digit's primary function remains object manipulation. The robot is designed to lift and transport objects weighing up to 35 pounds, as demonstrated in videos posted by Agility Robotics on social media platforms like Twitter and YouTube.
To accelerate the development of Digit's skills and abilities, Agility Robotics is launching its Agility Partner Program. This initiative offers exclusive access to the latest generation of Digit and provides partners with a unique opportunity to shape the robot's future capabilities. The program will initially be the only way to purchase the upgraded Digit, though the exact cost for obtaining the bot has not yet been revealed.
